Carlisle 22 nd May 1769
My dear Sally
We dismounted here yesterday in good health. – To my great joy, the Grand Jury for this County have prevented any trials for capital offences, as I sensibly feel for the Misfortunes of even the worst of the Community. I indicted a man for the murder of his wife, but the bill was not found; of consequence he will be discharged. –
I have little to add but my sincerest wishes for your happiness, & that our love may receive perpetual increase by an unvaried Intercourse of the Kindest offices. Remember my love to your Grandpapa & Mamma, my sister & the children & don’t forget Miss Patty. – Aunt Ralp is desired to accept a kiss from you on my account. -
I am most affectionately
My dearest Wife
Your Very Loving
