Tuesday Noon

Dearest Bob,

Received your most wonderful letter to-day, and it was the best I had I had ever had.   It really set me to thinking.

Bob, I really like your ways of thinking and I see you like many of the things I do.   (I’m sitting in an observation class, so if I don’t make sense, you can guess why).   Red is my favorite color and I have wore it more than any other color all my life.   Yellow is next.   I have to wear bright colors because of my dark complexion.   I hate black.   It makes me look like a dead person.   I seldom wear green either.   I wear brown because I have to.   I do believe in wearing a few skirts and sweaters, but I like colored or white blouses under my sweater.   Socks – I wear most all the time except of course to church and other social gatherings.   This is when I appreciate heels.   I hate hose, but wear them as a matter of custom.   I hate hats also, but wear them also as a matter of custom.   Just remember Bob, if you don’t like how I dress you can always tell me.   A man’s opinion of women’s dress is more important than a woman.

For men: I like sport cloths also, but no sloppy joe.   Bow ties are fine, but I just like the other kind best.   Its according to the man as to whether he wears a hat or not.

Speaking of sun tan make up – we are not freinds either.   I’ll just be satisfied with what I have acquired from the sun itself.

Tommy Dorsey is my favorite band leader.   I don’t know anything about music, but I do love good band music, some classicals, but no high C’s.

The perfume, [powder], lipstick, etc. does not make much difference as to kind except it has to be good and suit my complexion.   Fried chicken is my favorite food with banana pudding running a close second.   My middle name is Caroline (not Carolina), but I don’t like it much.   Greer Garson is my favorite actress.   Can’t make up my mind about the actor.

Speaking of jewelry, I love lots of it, if it is suitable for the occasion.   As of to-day I own one elgin watch, a birthstone and a high school ring.   Can’t decide whether I want a college ring or not.   I do not wear ear rings.   Seldom do I wear hair ribbons but I could if you want me to.   I’m sorry my hair isn’t long.   I keep it short so it will curl more.   When I let my hair (dark brown) grow long, it is too heavy to hold waves and doesn’t curl very well.   I think you will agree when you see me.

I’m very disappointed that you shall not get home for Christmas, but since it something that cannot be helped, I agree it will be the more sweeter when I do see you again.

This weekend I am going to Winston Salem to see Appalachian play Catawba.   Last Sat. night they (Appachian) beat Guilford College (Greensboro, NC) 7-6.   It was our first victory.   Most all our players are freshman so that makes a difference.   Basketball is my favorite sport anyway, and I’ll sure be glad when we start playing.

I heard from my mother to-day.   She told me my two brothers who are in the Navy met in Samar about 40 miles above Latai (mispelled).   The older brother is now on his way home for a discharge.   The other won’t get out before next summer.

Well, I must close.   I shall be looking for that picture soon.   I shall be waiting for you .

Good night my love and dream pleasant dreams.   I shall be thinking of you always and loving you more every day.

                                                                                                                Pleasant dreams,

                                                                                                                Love,

                                                                                                                      Louise “Uppy”

P.S. I didn’t finish this in class, but waited until to-night.

                                                                                                                I love you Bob,

                                                                                                                              Louise
