Case Study: Joanna's Well

Jim and Kathy Spencer purchased 107 South Duke Street in February 1984 shortly after their marriage. Both had owned property in the city, and they were determined to remain city residents. They fell in love with the house at first sight and have enjoyed living there for close to twenty years. Jim took the house history course offered by the Lancaster County Historical Society and found it invaluable in researching his home.

Jim Spencer, a West Virginian, has taught at Franklin & Marshall since 1980 and is the William G. and Elizabeth Simeral Professor of Chemistry. Kathy Spencer, grew up in Philadelphia, and moved to Lancaster in 1982 to take the position as College Librarian at Franklin & Marshall. Kathy retired in 1997.
