Return to Research Guide index

Pennsylvania did not have a systematic registry of deaths before 1906. For deaths before that date, it is necessary to check church records or compiled death records. Knowing the township where your ancestor lived or their religious denomination will help to narrow your search. To locate the specific church records, use the Churches and Cemeteries in Lancaster County, LC 310.35 R579, 20 and the online catalog, 6.  Fill out a call slip and turn in at the reference desk.

The sources listed below are all found on the Reading Room shelves.
