President James Buchanan loved his time here at Wheatland and opened up his house on many occasions to guests and dignitaries. Wheatland was a center of great excitement and entertainment when Buchanan ran his presidential campaign from Wheatland in 1856. Buchanan's love of entertainment continues today and we invite you to host your next corporate function on Wheatland's beautiful grounds.
Amenities include on site parking, rest rooms and outside electrical outlets. LancasterHistory.org does not provide tents or catering services. Information concerning tent rentals and recommended caterers available upon request.

Outside Corporate Receptions or Special Events Dinners: Up to 200 people - $500.00 security deposit. $150/hour - minimum of two-hours/event. $100/hour for members and nonprofit organizations - minimum of two-hours/event.

On January 11, 1866, Harriet Lane, President James Buchanan's niece and First Lady, was married at Wheatland to Henry Elliot Johnston of Baltimore. The grounds of this National Historic Landmark continue to provide a magnificent setting for wedding ceremonies and receptions.
Built in 1828 and purchased by James Buchanan in 1848 while he served as Secretary of State under President Polk, Wheatland is a magnificent, federal-style mansion that served as the beloved home of our fifteenth President until his death there in 1868. Since 1935, Wheatland has been visited annually by thousands of people from around the nation and the world.
You and your guests will be able to enjoy an unforgettable evening on the four landscaped acres surrounding President Buchanan's stately mansion. (Sorry, weddings are not permitted inside the mansion.) After dusk, Wheatland and its surrounding walks are gently illuminated, providing a dramatic backdrop that allows you to bask in the warm glow of history.
