Make History

LancasterHistory.org offers a variety of opportunities that provide hands-on experience in a vibrant, professional setting at Lancaster County's Historical Society and/or President James Buchanan's Wheatland. Opportunities at LancasterHistory.org include:

Volunteer

Volunteers are the lifeblood of LancasterHistory.org! More than 375 stalwart volunteers give tours, process archival materials, help patrons in the library, plan and execute events, research questions posed by the public, give presentations, oversee our investments, give tours at President Buchanan's Wheatland, and tend the Louise Arnold Tanger Arboretum.

In the last twelve months, our dedicated corps of volunteers has provided 12,358 hours of service with a financial value of $278,687. LancasterHistory.org would not be able to provide the extensive roster of services it has without these friends.

Volunteer opportunities are available in the spring, summer, and fall months in the following areas:

  • Museum Education and Programming

Internships

Internships at LancasterHistory.org help students get familiar with the fields they are passionate about by working in a state-of-the-art new "green" building with a wonderful array of collections and knowledgeable and experienced staff members.
