Volunteer in Visitor Services

Volunteer positions available in Visitor Services include:

  • Hospitality Greeter
  • Museum Store Associate

Hospitality Greeter

  • Description: A great volunteer opportunity for teens and adults to provide hospitality assistance for visitors arriving at LancasterHistory.org. The Visitor Service Associate will work with you at the Reception Desk in Ware Commons. The Hospitality Greeter will greet and welcome visitors to LancasterHistory.org, and provide information about the buildings amenities and the programs and activities available at LancasterHistory.org. 
  • Skills Required: Seeking individuals who are enthusiastic about history; dependable and motivated; possess good verbal communication skills; possess ability to be on their feet for up to an hour; are at least 12 years of age; available to work in a three hour shift.
  • Training/Education/Experience Required: Staff will provide training for those interested. Training includes shadowing hospitality staff and volunteers, and reading promotional materials about programs, exhibits, and events at LancasterHistory.org.
  • Payroll Status: Unpaid (volunteer)
  • Schedule: Shifts are available Monday through Saturday from 10am-1pm and/or 1pm-3pm. 

 

Museum Store Associate

  • Description: Seeking individuals who are enthusiastic about history; dependable and motivated; possess good verbal communication skills; possess ability to be on their feet for up to an hour; are at least 16 years of age; and available to work in four hour shifts. A Museum Store Associate's primary responsibilities include conducting retail sales, greet and welcome all customers; provide gift wrapping as required; provide personalized salesmanship for all customers; label merchandise using pricing/inventory system; maintain clean work space and stocked shelves; and assist with inventory activities as required. 
  • Training/Education/Experience Required or Preferred: Staff will provide training for interested individuals. A minimum of two years retail experience is preferred. Experience with computers and point of sale systems also preferred.
  • Payroll Status: Unpaid (volunteer)
  • Schedule: As coordinated with Patrick Clarke, Director of President James Buchanan's Wheatland.
