Special Journal Launch & Reception
Special Journal Launch & Reception
Join us on Thursday, February 22 from 5-7pm at LancasterHistory to commemorate two remarkable 100th anniversary celebrations, as we launch our next edition of the Journal of Lancaster County’s Historical Society, featuring retrospectives of the Lancaster NAACP and Lancaster County Community Foundation. RSVP for this free event by clicking the button below.
A century ago, two extraordinary organizations were founded in service of the people of Lancaster County. In 1923, the Lancaster Branch of the NAACP was formed by 50 dedicated individuals, committed to ensuring a society in which all people have equal rights and there is no racial hatred or discrimination. In 1924, the Lancaster County Community Foundation was created by a handful of business and community leaders who had the foresight to steward funds to help Lancaster County thrive. Over the last century, these two organizations have been at the heart of some of Lancaster’s most meaningful initiatives.
This event is free to attend but does require RSVPs. To RSVP, please click the button below or call (717) 392-4633, ext. 133 to make your reservation.
About NAACP Lancaster: NAACP Lancaster shares the vision of the national NAACP organization to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights without discrimination based on race. Our mission is to achieve equity, political rights, and social inclusion by advancing policies and practices that expand human and civil rights, eliminate discrimination, and accelerate the well-being, education, and economic security of Black people and all persons of color. The NAACP’s strategy for the 21st century–“C-Hope”–centers on four issues: improving health equity, increasing opportunity and justice, innovating in education, and supporting environment and climate justice.
About the Lancaster County Community Foundation: The Lancaster County Community Foundation uses the transformational potential of community-based philanthropy and the power of endowment to help shape a Lancaster County where every individual is valued, has a sense of belonging, and has the opportunity to thrive. Since 1924, people who care about Lancaster County have trusted the Community Foundation with their donations. Today, the Community Foundation cares for more than $200 million in community assets, and is more involved emboldening extraordinary community in Lancaster County than ever before.
