Capital Day Celebration
Celebrate the day Lancaster served as the nation’s capital for one day on September 27, 1777! LancasterHistory is throwing our first ever Capital Day Celebration on Friday, September 27 from 5:30-8pm. Full of family fun and quirky history, there will be activities throughout the evening to celebrate Lancaster’s claim to nation’s capital fame!
The doors open at 5:30pm on Friday, September 27 at LancasterHistory, 230 N. President Avenue. A tentative schedule of events include:
- 5:30-6:30pm: Music by Vivace Live Strings and a special performance of “The Capital Day Song” by Leo DiSanto
- 6:40pm: “On this Day in History:” Five Minute History with Adam Zurn of Uncharted Lancaster
- 6:45-7:45pm: “LancasterQuiztory,” a Lancaster County-themed game of trivia–with prizes! *Registration required*
Activities available throughout the evening include an all-ages indoor/outdoor scavenger hunt, LancasterHistory museum exhibit access, a kids’ station, and yard games. Fall-themed food and beverages will also be available throughout the evening, including outdoor firepits with s’mores. All attendees will receive a complimentary coupon to redeem at FoxDuck’s West King Street location for a special, free Capital Day poster for a limited time.
Those interested in registering to participate in “LancasterQuiztory” may sign up on-site at the Capital Day Celebration before 6:30pm at a designated sign up table. Individuals and groups of up to six persons may participate as a team. For those not interested in joining for trivia, all other activities will continue on during that time.
TICKETS
Tickets to the Capital Day Celebration are $50/Adult (18+) and $10/Child, and include food, drink, entertainment, and activities. The Capital Day Celebration puts the “fun” in fundraiser and benefits the education and public programs of LancasterHistory. Firepit ($500 for 4 people) and Firepit Plus ($1,000 for 8 people) Sponsors can reserve a firepit for their group’s exclusive use.

Event Accessibility Information: Everyone should be able to celebrate Capital Day! Accessible, on-site parking is available in the main parking lot facing North President Avenue by the museum. All activities will take place on or near paved pathways, both indoor and outdoor of LancasterHistory’s museum. Fire pits will be in the grass, but assistance is always available from LancasterHistory staff members and chairs/benches are provided. Chairs and benches are also available in the museum and throughout the exhibitions. Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) are available for “LancasterQuiztory” on a first come, first serve basis. Restrooms are also available on-site, including a single stall, lockable, All-Gender restroom.
