First to Rise & Last To Retire: A Guided Tour About the Domestic Workers at Wheatland

Edward Bolger. Mary Smithgall. The Freelands. Rosanna Gordon. These are the few names of the many people employed at Wheatland during Buchanan’s lifetime. On July 31, enjoy a special guided tour at Wheatland that places the spotlight on the people who worked to create the comfortable lifestyle that Buchanan and his family enjoyed: the domestic workers. Learn from the history and stories about the domestic workers’ lives, their daily jobs on the Wheatland property, and the social division between the domestic workers and Buchanan’s family.

Tours will be available on the half hour, beginning at 10am and continuing until the last tour at 3pm.
