Storytime [July 20, 2022]

Gather ’round with LancasterHistory on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 10am for Storytime! Storytime at LancasterHistory takes place among historic buildings, giving children an immersive history experience. A passionate museum educator will read aloud from a book centered on a historical theme, and then lead a craft or activity inspired by the theme. On July 20, we’ll read Hidden Figures: The True Story of Four Black Women and the Space Race by Margot Lee. We’ll then complete a craft or activity based on the day’s theme (craft/activity to be determined).

Book Excerpt: “Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson, and Christine Darden were good at math…really good. They participated in some of NASA’s greatest successes, like providing the calculations for America’s first journeys into space. And they did so during a time when being black and a woman limited what they could do. But they worked hard. They persisted. And they used their genius minds to change the world.”  [Scholastic]

This program broadens kids’ historical knowledge, and establishes museum literacy and critical thinking skills. The program is free, and registration is required to ensure we have craft supplies for everyone. Suggested for ages 12 and under. Register for all four Storytime programs or individual programs online or over the phone by calling (717) 392-4633.

Storytime will take place outdoors unless it rains, in which case it will be moved indoors. All attendees should abide by LancasterHistory’s Heath & Safety Protocols for Visitors. We kindly ask that at least one (1) adult 18 years or older attend for every two children.
