Student Advisory Council

Student Advisory Council Opportunity

Are you interested in history, museums, and creating fun, meaningful educational experiences for young people? We want to hear from you! LancasterHistory is seeking high school students to join our education team this summer as we develop new field trips and other youth programs. Over the course of a week in July, you’ll see everything we have to offer across all of our sites and give us feedback on what’s working well, what’s not, and how we can improve programs for students. We want to give young people the tools to understand our community’s history and imagine the future they want to inhabit. This is your invitation to join us and help build programs that do just that. It’s our history. It won’t be complete without your voice.

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team and strongly encourage candidates of all races, ethnicities, genders, identities, abilities, and socioeconomic backgrounds to apply. A passion for learning is a must, but no experience or prior knowledge is necessary!

  • Date and Time: This program will run Monday, July 6, 2026 through Friday, July 10, 2026 from 9:30AM to 2PM each day. Lunch will be included. Participants are expected to attend all five sessions. If you anticipate any conflicts, please let us know as part of your application.
  • Location: Our time will be split between LancasterHistory’s President Avenue campus–the location of James Buchanan’s Wheatland and the LancasterHistory Museum and Research Center–and the Thaddeus Stevens & Lydia Hamilton Smith Center for History and Democracy in downtown Lancaster City.
  • Compensation: Participants will be compensated with a $200 gift card at the end of the week if they have attended each day. We can also provide students with funds for transportation costs (including parking or ride share) as needed.
  • Eligibility: Students who will be attending high school (grades 9-12) in the fall of 2026 are eligible to participate. Students from any school are eligible. Priority will go to students from Lancaster County. We strongly encourage students of all races, ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences to apply. (Note that we will have additional opportunities for younger students in the future.)
  • Applications: Applications are due by June 30, 2026 at 11:59PM. Please read all application instructions carefully. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The application can be found here: https://forms.gle/nPQKsaBvQ4DkzXvH6
