Description

An excerpt:

“Most people have a very limited acquaintance with the career of President James Buchanan, but everybody seems to know one fact about him. He was the only bachelor to be President of the United States. The Republicans introduced this fact into campaign propaganda in 1856 as evidence that Buchanan’s character was defective and his life dissolute.”

This booklet is 16 pages, soft cover and printed in 1991. It features the original article written by Philip S. Klein for The Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania, and appeared in Tee Western Pennsylvania Historical Magazine, Vol. 50, N. 3, July 1967.
