Rejoice in the magic of the holiday season at President James Buchanan’s Wheatland!

It is 1875, and James Buchanan’s niece, Harriet Lane Johnston, and her family have decked the halls of Wheatland in high Victorian style. Join them for a one-of-a-kind Yuletide experience, complete with elegant decor and ample holiday cheer!

Performances begin November 25 and run through December 30.

Planning Your Visit for Yuletide at Wheatland

What is Yuletide at Wheatland?

Yuletide at Wheatland is an annual, holiday-themed, performance-based program at President James Buchanan's Wheatland. Each year there is a different theme, commonly centered around the history of Wheatland, its inhabitants, or the time period in which they lived. Visitors witness an hour-long performance and may be asked to participate during the performance through caroling or playing games. Yuletide at Wheatland ticketholders also receive admission to the museum exhibition galleries as well.

Please note: Yuletide at Wheatland is a performance, not a tour. Visitors wishing to take a guided tour of the mansion should pursue our General Admission tickets.

When does Yuletide at Wheatland take place?

Yuletide at Wheatland performances take place Fridays and Saturdays, on the hour, from 1pm to the last performance at 6pm, starting November 25 to December 30. There are also additional performances on December 26, 27, and 28.

LancasterHistory.org will be closed December 25. There are no performances available on this date.

Where does Yuletide at Wheatland take place?

Yuletide at Wheatland takes place within Wheatland, the home of President James Buchanan. Visitors will watch the performance and move throughout the house, on both floors, as the performance unfolds around them.

Checking In With Tickets

All ticketholders MUST check in at the front desk at LancasterHistory.org's main building (modern with sloped roof) at least 15 minutes before their ticket entry time.

Ticketholders are entitled to a performance for Yuletide at Wheatland and admission to the museum exhibitions at LancasterHistory.org. We highly recommend purchasing tickets in advance as performances do often sell out and walk-in space is not guaranteed.


Where can I buy tickets?

Tickets for Yuletide at Wheatland may be purchased online* or over the phone by calling (717) 392-4633. Advanced tickets are highly recommended as performances often sell out and walk-in space is not guaranteed.

Ticketholders should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their ticket entry time for check in at LancasterHistory.org's main building. (It is a modern building with a sloped roof.)

*Please note that same-day online reservations must be made at least one-hour in advance of a performance's start time (Example: Online reservations for a 3pm, same-day performance must be made prior to 2pm). 

Do you offer discounts for AAA/Seniors/Military?

During the holiday season, we do not offer any discounts for AAA card members, seniors, or military personnel.

I need to cancel my tickets. Can I get a refund?

Cancellations for booked tickets require a 24-hour minimum notice to receive a 100% refund. Please call (717) 392-4633 should you need to cancel your tickets.

Besides Yuletide at Wheatland, do you offer any other tours during the holiday season?

Yes! LancasterHistory.org does offer tours of Wheatland during the holiday season. General Admission is still available, on the hour, Monday - Thursday from 10am - 3pm and Fridays and Saturdays from 10am - 12pm. (Exception of December 26 - 28: 10am - 12pm.)

With a General Admission ticket, visitors will receive a guided tour of the mansion and admission to the museum exhibitions in LancasterHistory.org's main building. These guided tours last approximately an hour. Visitors will have the chance to see the mansion decorated for the holidays and the tour will have added information about the holidays. This is not a performance like Yuletide at Wheatland.



I have a Lancaster County Family Museum Pass. Can I use that for Yuletide at Wheatland?

Lancaster County Family Museum passes may not be used to attend a Yuletide at Wheatland performance.

Do you offer Group Tours for Yuletide at Wheatland?

Yes, we do! Group tours must have a minimum of 10 or more paying adults and give a minimum of two weeks advanced reservation.

May I take pictures?

Still photography is permitted for noncommercial use only at LancasterHistory.org, including President James Buchanan's Wheatland, unless otherwise posted. For the safety of our visitors and collections, the use of tripods, monopods, and selfie sticks is not permitted at any time. Flash photography is not permitted.

Please note that the Yuletide at Wheatland performance will involve travelling stairs. We are happy to provide alternative accommodations upon request.
