Visit President James Buchanan’s Wheatland virtually on Presidents’ Day, February 15, for a special tour of the historic mansion! In real-time, a costumed tour guide will lead you through the mansion and share the history of the home as well as the public and private life of President Buchanan. During the tour, your guide will perform a brief, first-person living history conversation where you’ll be transported back to 1864 and “meet” the retired 15th president and his close friend and guest, Mrs. Cornelia Van Ness Roosevelt of Oyster Bay, New York. Viewers can listen in on their conversation and ask them questions through Zoom’s Q&A feature as they chat about mutual friends and James Buchanan’s perspectives about his beloved Democratic Party and who was responsible for the hastening of the catastrophe of the southern states’ rebellion. After the conversation, your guide will continue the tour throughout the rest of the house. The entire program should last approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
