James Buchanan is best-known as our nation’s 15th President, but he was also a gentleman farmer. From 1848-1868, Buchanan lived at Wheatland, which sat upon 22.5 acres of meadows, orchards, gardens, and more. Join Museum Associate Stephanie Celiberti for a presentation on how the grounds of Wheatland functioned as a farm and green space over the course of Buchanan’s life.

The first part of the program will take place in Ryder Hall with a 40-minute presentation. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions. The second part of the program is an optional, outdoor tour of the places on the Wheatland grounds previously discussed in the presentation.

The event, “Discovering A Gentleman’s Farm: A History of the Wheatland Grounds,” will take place on Saturday, August 10 at 10am at LancasterHistory. Tickets to attend the program are $5 for Adults (18+), $3 for Students (11-17 or College ID), and free for LancasterHistory and Friends of the Tanger Arboretum Members.
