Exploring Fraktur: Calligraphy, Folk Art, & Joseph McGlaughlin
Join LancasterHistory on Friday, February 7 from 12pm to 1pm for our first Lunchtime Lecture of 2020, Exploring Fraktur: Calligraphy, Folk Art, and Joseph McGlaughlin.
This presentation, given by 2019 Summer Internship Program alum Sarah Kurland-Hill, focuses on Fraktur. Sarah will explore Fraktur as both a calligraphic font type and a celebrated Pennsylvania German folk art. A specific emphasis is put on distinguished Lancaster calligrapher Joseph McGlaughlin (1867-1942) and his personal belongings that are housed in the collections at LancasterHistory. This presentation and conversation will take place in the Carriage House at LancasterHistory on Friday, February 7 from 12pm to 1pm. Guests are welcome to bring a bagged lunch to eat during the program. Cookies and lemonade will be provided. No reservations are required.
Sarah Kurland-Hill is a Junior at Franklin and Marshall College studying anthropology and studio art.
