Lancaster Water Week: History of the Conestoga River, Part 3: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Lancaster Water Week: History of the Conestoga River, Part 3: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
In Partnership with the Lancaster County Conservancy’s Water Week
Join the Lancaster County Conservancy on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 6pm EDT at LancasterHistory for a presentation on the Conestoga River. Is the Conestoga really in such bad shape? How did it get that way? Speaker Ben Webber will explain the historic changes to this “mystic river” and how the Lancaster community’s development made such a sudden impact on the viability of local waterways.
Ben Webber serves Lancaster Township as its municipal engineer. He grew up and resides in Manheim Township along the Conestoga River. As a civil engineer for more than 35 years, he has always been fascinated with water. A few years ago, he asked the unfortunate question “Where does the name Bridgeport come from?” His thirst for local history has been unquenched ever since. June 7th’s presentation is the third in a series that he has presented as part of the Conservancy’s Water Week since 2020.
