Gather ’round with LancasterHistory on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 10am for Storytime! Storytime at LancasterHistory takes place among historic buildings, giving children an immersive history experience. A passionate museum educator will read aloud from a book centered on a historical theme, and then lead a craft or activity inspired by the theme. On May, we’ll read Now and Ben: The Modern Inventions of Benjamin Franklin by Gene Barretta. We’ll then complete a craft or activity based on the day’s theme (craft/activity to be determined).
Book Description: “What would you do if you lived in a community without a library, hospital, post office, or fire department? If you were Benjamin Franklin, you’d set up these organizations yourself. Franklin also designed the lightning rod, suggested the idea of daylight savings time, and invented bifocals-all inspired by his common sense and intelligence. In this informative book, Gene Barretta brings Benjamin Franklin’s genius to life, deepening our appreciation for one of the most influential figures in American history.” [MacMillian Publishers]
This program broadens kids’ historical knowledge, and establishes museum literacy and critical thinking skills. The program is free, and registration is required to ensure we have craft supplies for everyone. Suggested for ages 6 and under. Register for all four Storytime programs or individual programs online or over the phone by calling (717) 392-4633.
Storytime will take place outdoors unless it rains, in which case it will be moved indoors. All attendees should abide by LancasterHistory’s Heath & Safety Protocols for Visitors. We kindly ask that at least one (1) adult, parent, or guardian attend per child.
