Storytime [May 18, 2023]

Book cover of "George Washington's Teeth."Gather ’round with LancasterHistory on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 10am for Storytime! Storytime at LancasterHistory takes place among historic buildings, giving children an immersive history experience. A passionate museum educator or volunteer will read aloud from a book centered on a historical theme, and then lead a craft or activity inspired by the theme. On May 18, we’ll read George Washington’s Teeth by Deborah Chandra and Madeleine Comora (illustrated by Brock Cole). We’ll then complete a craft or activity based on the day’s theme (craft/activity to be determined).

Book Excerpt: “From battling toothaches while fighting the British, to having rotten teeth removed by his dentists, the Father of His Country suffered all his life with tooth problems. Yet, contrary to popular belief, he never had a set of wooden teeth. Starting at the age of twenty-four, George Washington lost on average a tooth a year, and by the time he was elected president, he had only two left!” [Macmillan Publishers]

This program broadens kids’ historical knowledge, and establishes museum literacy and critical thinking skills. The program is free, and registration is required to ensure we have craft supplies for everyone. Storytime is designed for young readers, ages 2-6, but older and younger siblings or friends are welcome to attend. Register for all Storytime programs or individual programs online or over the phone by calling (717) 392-4633.

Storytime will take place outdoors unless it rains, in which case it will be moved indoors. All attendees should abide by LancasterHistory’s Heath & Safety Protocols for Visitors. We kindly ask that at least one (1) adult 18 years or older attend for every two children.
