Storytime [May 25, 2023]
Gather ’round with LancasterHistory on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 10am for Storytime! Storytime at LancasterHistory takes place among historic buildings, giving children an immersive history experience. A passionate museum educator or volunteer will read aloud from a book centered on a historical theme, and then lead a craft or activity inspired by the theme. On May 25, we’ll read F is for Flag by Wendy Cheyette Lewison (illustrated by Barbara Duke). We’ll then complete a craft or activity based on the day’s theme (craft/activity to be determined).
Book Excerpt: “June 14 is Flag Day, but with so many American flags proudly displayed, every day seems like Flag Day. Perfect for reading together with a young child, F Is for Flag shows in simple terms how one flag can mean many things: a symbol of unity, a sign of welcome, and a reminder that-in good times and in bad-everyone in our country is part of one great big family.” [Penguin Random House]
This program broadens kids’ historical knowledge, and establishes museum literacy and critical thinking skills. The program is free, and registration is required to ensure we have craft supplies for everyone. Storytime is designed for young readers, ages 2-6, but older and younger siblings or friends are welcome to attend. Register for all Storytime programs or individual programs online or over the phone by calling (717) 392-4633.
Storytime will take place outdoors unless it rains, in which case it will be moved indoors. All attendees should abide by LancasterHistory’s Heath & Safety Protocols for Visitors. We kindly ask that at least one (1) adult 18 years or older attend for every two children.
