Scope and Content Note:  Part 4, Papers of Edward Young Buchanan, Series 1, contains the correspondence of Edward Young Buchanan.  Letters from and to Edward Young Buchanan pertain to settlement of the estate of James Buchanan, including his papers, biography, and memorial site, with reference to many nieces and nephews, especially Harriet Lane Johnston.  Many of the letters from Edward Young Buchanan are to co-executor Hiram B. Swarr. The letters to Edward Young Buchanan are from William B. Reed, Charles M. Howell, William Diller, C. M. Yates, James Buchanan III and John Cadwalader dating from 1865 to 1877.
