Description:  Collection contains correspondence and ephemera of the Rich and Grove families of Marietta. Autograph albums, school books, wedding invitations, cards, a flier for Accomac summer resort, and teaching certificates give a glimpse of the social and educational activities of family members. Deeds trace the ownership of property in Marietta from Dr. John Huston to Henry S. Rich. The correspondence is primarily from Annie Grove (1921) and Henry and Fanny Rich (1925) during their travels in Europe and North Africa.

Two female paper dolls cut out from the comics section of the newspaper. Each has two outfits-sailor, [riding], ball gowns-one was colored with crayon. All tuck inside the volume. No date.

 

Folder 2     Autograph album of Sallie O’Bryan. Album of Friendship. Published by Leavitt & Allen, New York. No date. “Sallie O’Bryan’s book. Presented to her by her friend on Christmas 1859.” Contains dedication, messages from friends and family, and printed images such as “Womans Triumph” and “The Stolen Kiss.” 1859-1890.

Folder 3     The Christian Minister’s Affectionate Advice to a Married Couple, by Rev. James Bean, A.M. Including a letter from the Rev. Henry Venn, M.A., author of The Complete Duty of Man. Published by the American Tract Society, 150 Nassau Street, New York. No date. Certificate at front for Amos Grove and wife, Sallie O’Brien, who married in Marietta on February 2, 1862.

Folder 6     Autograph album of Alfaretta Grove. ” Alfaretta Grove, Christmas 1882.” Contains messages and poems from friends and family and signatures from her Sunday School class in 1889. 1882-1889.
