Scope and Content Note:  This collection contains four letters from Henry Seiger to Anna Roland in Marietta, Pennsylvania. One letter is written in German and is either to or from Anna Roland. Henry Seiger was in the 12th Regiment, Company D under Captain Wilt’s command. Folder 1 contains the transcriptions, Folder 2 contains the original letters.

Folder 1  Transcriptions of letters to Anna Roland from Henry Seiger

Optimistic letter to Anna regarding camp life, a longing to go after the Secessioners, punishment in camp and a message for Abraham Smith. Hannley Town. 27 August 1861.

Letter to Anna with news of his company’s activity near Fredericksburg, the capture of five men from his company and that they are headed to Richmond. 19 May 1862.

Letter to Anna regarding news of the rebel army in Pennsylvania and that he’d like to see the battle line along the Susquehanna, he expects a battle to be fought at Bull Run and is awaiting news of Port Hudson and Vicksburg. Uptons Hill, Virginia. He has made rings for Matilda and Sarah. 19 June [1863].

Letter to Annie stating that he has been very ill and that he was at Gettysburg earlier in the month. Near Berlin, Maryland. 17 July [1863].

Letter, written mostly in German, either to or from Anna Roland. The message in English seems to be that the writer is going to have a likeness taken and that he or she is tired of the Rebels. No date.
