Scope and Content Note: Collection contains items primarily relating to the medical practice of Dr. Howard Hopkins Withers. Includes booklets containing recipes for medications for various conditions, questions and answers on medical procedures and chemistry, lists of chemicals and muscles, and receipts for office rent and fixtures. Also, studio photographs of individuals, two with the name Withers. One photograph of Dr. Greenawald of Lancaster’s Trinity Lutheran Church. Several of the receipts have hand canceled stamps affixed.

Booklet: Questions on Chemistry contains 385 questions and answers. “W. Samuel Atlee” is written at the top of the first page.

Note, signed by “M.S.W.,” says “The name W. Samuel Atlee brings to mind Dr. Atlee of Lancaster with whom Dr. Howard studied.”

Loose pages with handwritten medicinal recipes. Several recipes are for treatment of horses, and some are for household needs.

Insert 3 One sheet with handwritten alphabetical list of chemicals, herbs, oils, spices, dyes, etc., plus a few hardware items such as bottles, crucibles, and mortars.

Insert 4 Two page booklet containing a thesis on a form of dropsy. “Lancaster Pennsy” written at the end.
