Family, friends, politicians, and press visited James Buchanan at Wheatland. He ran his presidential campaign from the sitting room, and many visitors lined the hallway waiting for their turn to talk with him.
Today Wheatland welcomes group tours from around the world. As visitors arrive they will be greeted at the historic site's Visitors Center and then begin their tour of the mansion. The group tours are guided through Wheatland by history interpreters, or docents, many of whom are elegantly attired in period dress. The tour lasts approximately one hour. Visitors are also invited to tour the beautiful grounds of Wheatland and learn more about James Buchanan's political life in the Visitors Center on their own. Group Tour PolicyGroups are graciously welcomed to Wheatland, Home of President James Buchanan. Groups must be of 10 or more to receive the group rate and advance reservations are required.
