Scope and Content: Series 4, Newspapers, contains oversized sections and pages of newspapers from Lancaster, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., New York and White Pigeon, Michigan. Three of the papers are written in German. The remaining papers contain articles regarding Lincoln’s progress through Lancaster and Harrisburg on his way to Washington D.C. for his inauguration, obituaries for Abraham Breneman and the state of the democratic party in Philadelphia in 1878, as well as classified ads and wedding announcements. One paper has James Buchanan’s entire inauguration speech reprinted on the first two pages.
