Administrative/Biographical History: “The Iris Club of Lancaster, Pennsylvania was founded by Miss Alice Nevin in 1895. The home in which the organization now resides was built in 1858 and purchased by The Iris Club in 1898. The Bates Foundation was added in 1955 and fully refurbished in 1992. Many community projects began within the walls of The Iris Club, including the first Red Cross, the first Well Baby Clinic and the Shelter Home for Girls.” (irisclublancasterpa.com)
“The object of the Club shall be to form a recognized center for social and mental culture; to further the education of women; to encourage all movements for the betterment of society; and to foster a generous spirit in the community.
