Description: This collection contains an 1883 account by John F. Heinitsh pertaining to Aaron Conrad Kepler (1841-1921), a prominent merchant in Lancaster, PA. The account includes a brief biography of Mr. Kepler, the summary of his construction of a new building in Lancaster next to his hardware store, and a list of employees in his store.

Folder 1 Handwritten document which had been placed in a box or time capsule in 1883 at the time A. C. Kepler built the four-story building which housed his hardware store in Lancaster. Details the construction of the building on N. Queen Street with the names of contractors. Kepler leased parts of his buildings to the Post Office, Cline Bros. Billiard Hall, various societies, and John H. Baumgardner and P. Eckert’s gymnasium. Also includes a short biography of Mr. Kepler which mentions his Civil War service, information on the hardware store, and a list of employees at the time. Written by John F. Heinitsh, grandson of John F. Heinitsh, apothecary and druggist. 1883. Gift of the estate of Miss Mary S. Kepler, 7 December 1951. Transferred from the Kepler Family File.
