Biographical and Historical Note: According to Lancaster County tax records, James Cushman owned the property at the corner of Gay Street and Front Street in Marietta in 1855. This property was occupied by J. M. Whitehill and a livery stable. Whitehill operated a livery stable until 1860 on property owned by L. Houseal and J. Willson.

Custodial History (Provenance): This volume was part of Ms. Snedaker’s brother-in-law’s collection, but is not a family piece.
