Description: This collection contains patents issued to inventors in Lancaster County. The patents have the technical information about the invention and also drawings and/or blueprints. Some of the patents are for a horse hay rake, pinions, a railroad car brake, and improvements in threshing machines, balancing mill stones, kitchen slicing utensils and a still. Two of the documents are signed by Secretary of State Henry Clay and President Andrew Jackson.

Folder 7 A document signed in 1827 by U.S. Secretary of State Henry Clay certifying the attached copy of the patent for the Improvement in the Mill Gudgeon that was granted 24 August 1813 to Michael Withers and witnessed by James H. Blake and Andrew Way. Transferred from the Document Collection, May 2011.

Folder 9 Information pertaining to the 30 January 1834 patent granted to Jacob Weitzel for the improvement of stills. See Folder 10.

Folder 10 Jacob Weitzel’s patent for stills with the signature of President Andrew Jackson, 30 January 1834. Much of the ink on this document has faded; the seal is intact. Also signed by U.S. Secretary of State Louis McLane and U.S. Attorney General B. F. Butler. Registered in the U.S. Patent Office 5 June 1837. An original watercolor drawing by J. F. Folder 11 Signed document stating that Peter Musser purchased a patent plough-plate from John Seitz and James Whitehill, patentees, Strasburg. No date. Transferred from the Document Collection, 29 May 2014.

Folder 12 Official certificate showing that J. Frank Keller acquired a half-interest in Edward F. Price’s patent for useful improvements in garbage furnaces. The $1.00 investment occurred 6 September 1907. Certificate issued 8 November 1907. Transferred from the Document Collection, 31 May 2014.
