Description:  This collection contains two folders and four binders of published works, research notes, family history, and original documents pertaining to the Summy family (1692-1997).

Folder 1  Contains a photocopy of document pertaining to sale of property of  Peter Summy of Lyron Co. North Carolina to Patrick Miller of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina (January 30, 1775), a chart illustrating the family tree of Deitich Ramsauer and his descendents, and the 200th Anniversary Booklet of the Daniels Lutheran Church.

 

Folder 2  Contains two original deeds to lands in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.  The first from John Geisey to John Summy on April 3, 1833 with Martin Schwar and Christian Heistand as executors (recorded in the recorders office of Lancaster County in Book 6, Vol. 6, pg. 359); the second deed from Peter Summy to John Summy on April 6, 1835 (recorded in the recorders office of Lancaster County in Book 6, Vol. 6, pg. 357).

Note: The first deed is nearly torn in half with fraying along folded edges.

 

Binder 1, labeled “Charles Ballard Summey Genealogy” (black)

Contains genealogical records, lists, and family group files of each member of the Summey family (1844-1975), as well as the records for the Summey family brochure and Charles Summey’s letters to relatives on said information.

 

Binder 2, labeled “Summy List” (red)

Contains several editions of the Summy family’s Who’s Who series including veteran records, marriage records, and birth and death records obtained from the Social Security Administration’s Death Master files.  Much of the rest of the materials in this binder consist of lists of names and residences of Summy family members throughout the United States (1783-1997), compiled in part by John W. Summy.

 

Binder 3, labeled “Documents ‘GEN’” (black)

Contains the translation and transcription of a document pertaining to Peter and Hans Sumi (Febuary 29, 1692), also letters from John W. Summy to his relations requesting and/or sending information on the family history; birth, death, and baptismal records of family members listed by states; details of family history from residence in Switzerland to arrival in America; correspondence between John Summy and Nancy Webster concerning records on Haldemans in Lancaster County; maps of various states and counties; land warrants in Berk County, PA; and typed manuscript of the Ramsey family history South Forks, North Carolina (relations by marriage to the Summy family).

Binder 4, labeled “Michael Branch Incl Solomon Documents” (brown)

Largely contains records of correspondence between John Summy and various relations on the research and collection of information of different branches of the Summy family history and records.  There are also copies of documents concerning members of the Summy family including photographs, land deeds, military records, newspaper clippings, baptismal and cemetery records, birth, death, and marriage records.
